Community Organizing

The NYCLU has field organizers throughout the state who are working aggressively on outreach, public education and direct advocacy with local and state legislators.

We work hard to build successful coalitions to combine our power and resources with other organizations and individuals to attain our shared goals.

We invite NYCLU members and supporters to become active participants in the fight for LGBT rights by attending local events and participating in legislative and community advocacy today. This work is not possible without your help.

Find your elected representative and Take Action!

  • Public Education
The New York Civil Liberties Union public education efforts utilize documentaries, panel discussions and publications such as our fact-sheets to educate New Yorkers. Check out our calendar for information on our events.
  • Letters for Marriage
The NYCLU is collecting letters in support of marriage for same-sex couples. We are looking for volunteers to help us get letters signed in the community in support of same-sex marriage. If you would like to help out, sign a letter in support of marriage that will be delivered to your representative in the Senate, or launch a letter collection effort in your community, please contact ebraudy@nyclu.org.
  • Get your voice heard!
Calling your representative, both in the Senate and the Assembly is a great way to get your voice heard. Writing a hand-written letter is also a powerful way for your legislator to hear from you. Click here to find out who your legislator is.
Call them in support of the three LGBT Legislative priorities or thank them for their support on certain issues.
