Ending Discriminatory Policing in NYC (2013)

NYCLU_DiscriminatoryPolicing_cover

In communities across New York City, NYPD tactics disproportionately impact young black and Latino men. Stop-and-frisk, the overuse of low-level arrests and summonses, surveillance of Muslim communities and police intervention in school discipline are discriminatory tactics that harm communities and do not work to keep New Yorkers safe. This fact sheet highlights crime statistics, reporting on school arrests and numbers from the NYPD’s own stop-and-frisk database to tell the story of what hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers already know: that the NYPD must shift its focus to decreasing crime without destroying communities.

As bold as the spirit of New York, we are the NYCLU.
