New York City

  • The Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN)
    A national organization devoted to schools issues. GLSEN can help you set up a GSA and it has chapters throughout New York State. Be sure to check out the index of all GLSEN’s research and studies.
  • The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) LGBT Project
    The LGBT Project’s Youth & Schools program has a ton of online information for students, but also for parents, teachers and school administrators.
  • The Neutral Zone
    The Neutral Zone is the first drop-in center designated specifically for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) homeless and at-risk youth. Our mission is to create a network of support, safety and service provision for disenfranchised LGBTQ runaway and homeless adolescents and young adults by offering sanctuary, basic needs, positive alternatives, and programming designed to enhance the future of each youth member.
  • Youth resources from the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force
    Information on "ex-gay" ministries, homelessness among LGBT youth, school safety and a variety of other issues.
  • Ali Forney Center
    AFC is the nation’s largest and most comprehensive organization dedicated to homeless LGBT youth. Their goal is to provide homeless LGBT youths, aged 16-24, with the support and services they need to escape the streets and begin to live healthy and independent lives.
  • National Youth Advocacy Coalition
    A national organization that works to support LGBT youth through regional organizing and grassroots activism; sponsors regional conferences to train young activists and provide information and support.
  • Youth Resource
    A web site by and for LGBT young people, with lots of information on sexual health and other issues subdivided into easy-to-search categories.
  • FIERCE!
    Community organization for Transgender, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Queer, and Questioning (TLGBTSQQ) youth of color in New York City. FIERCE! is dedicated to exploring and building power in communities through a mix of leadership development, artistic and cultural activism, political education, and campaign development.
  • Lambda Legal
    a national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and those with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work.
  • Lesbian & Gay Immigration Rights Task Force
    Organization that works to end discrimination in U.S. immigration law, to reduce the negative impact of that law on the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and HIV-positive people, and to help obtain asylum for those persecuted in their home country based on their sexual orientation, transgender identity or HIV-status

    • HOTT: Health Outreach to Teens. Low- and/or no-cost medical and mental health services for LGBT and street youth, including comprehensive primary care, counseling, social services, HIV/STI prevention services and health education. Services are delivered both on-site at Callen-Lorde and on a fully-equipped medical van.
    • Transgender Services: Comprehensive primary care, including hormone therapy, counseling, education and referrals to support services.
  • The Door

    The Door offers primary health care, prenatal care and health education, mental health counseling, legal services, GED, ESL, tutoring and homework help, college preparation and computer classes, career development services and training, job placement, daily meals, arts, sports and recreational activities.
  • The Bronx Pride Center Health Link Line

Western New York

  • Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley -Rochester, NY
    The GAGV Youth Program provides comprehensive advocacy and support services to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth and their families in Monroe County and the surrounding areas. The GAGV also has a resource directory that has youth listings – gay-straight alliances, health, hotlines, college and professional services.
  • Gay & Lesbian Youth Services – Buffalo, NY
    GLYS is the acronym for Gay & Lesbian Youth Services of WNY!
    It was founded in 1983. GLYS offers a variety of opportunities and services for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth & their friends ages 14-21.
  • Men of Color Health Awareness Project (MOCHA) also offers youth focused programming/services to queer youth (male, female and trans) of color. They have offices in both Rochester and Buffalo.

Central New York

  • The Bridge, Inc — Glens Falls NY
    Andrea Adams- Executive Director
    The Bridge is a lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community organization. The Bridge is fueled with a dream for health, empowerment and justice. Their actions and programs are focused to improve quality of life of gender and sexual orientation minorities. They hope to open a full time LGBTQ community center in Glens Falls in the spring of 2008.
  • Q Center — Syracuse NY
    AIDS Community Resources’ Q Center has a mission to promote health, safety, and empowerment for high-risk young people.  The Q Center in Syracuse is a safe place for high-risk youth and their allies, ages 13 — 22, to gather.  Staffed by trained adult volunteer facilitators, the Center offers educational and social events, HIV education and testing, a state of the art Cyber Center with computer literacy classes, drop-in counseling, the “Express Yourself” Arts Program, and tutoring. 

Westchester

  • The Loft — White Plains
    The LOFT is a not-for-profit, community-based organization serving the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered community of the lower Hudson Valley. The LOFT works to further the cause for inclusion, diversity and pride through education, advocacy and celebration.
